The Bobby Bones Show is the name of an American syndicated weekday country radio morning show broadcast based in Nashville, Tennessee, on The BIG 98 WSIX-FM 97.9. It airs live from 6am to 11am eastern time. The show is syndicated by Premiere Networks in other markets in which iHeartMedia own country formatted stations. [1]
Bobby Bones is accompanied by co-hosts Lunchbox, Amy, Eddie, and Alayna. Jay Shannon is program director. According to Clear Channel Radio, the show is the number one rated morning show in Austin, Wichita, Amarillo, and Lubbock; though regarding the Austin market it is not always the case due to heavy competition from rival radio shows - notably the Dudley and Bob Morning Show on rival station 93.7 KLBJ FM "The Rock of Austin." The morning show runs on weekdays from 5 AM to 10 AM.[2] On July 18, 2011, it was announced that Bobby signed a three-year extension to do mornings for Clear Channel's Kiss 96.7 KHFI, and also signed a deal with Premiere Networks for syndication rights.[3]
Emergency Alert System Panic
The Bobby Bones Show was infamously known for setting off the Emergency Alert System that affected many viewers and listeners on October 24, 2014. During a segment discussing an EAS test that interrupted Game 2 of the 2014 World Series, somebody made the mistake of playing a YouTube clip of the 2011 national EAS test over the air. That led to the affiliates (listed above) of Bones' show that are EAS primary stations like his flagship 97.9 WSIX in Nashville, in their market to send the Emergency Action Notification alerts out. This later cascaded to several TV stations and many AT&T U-verse systems, whose receivers in the Atlanta, Austin, and Detroit markets were "force tuned" on a certain major network affiliate "to receive the Emergency Alert Message". Unlike AT&T, most of the other broadcasters had that outdated timestamp in the audio not trigger the warning. It is possible that iHeartMedia will be hit with fines for whichever affiliates of the Bobby Bones Show triggered the false alarm.[4][5]
