Kim Jiwon (Hangul: 김지원, born December 21, 1995), better known by the name Bobby (Hangul: 바비), is a South Korean hip hop rapper and member of the South Korean boy group iKON.[1] He is the winner of the third season of Mnet's rap survival program "Show Me the Money."[2] He unofficially debuted in the reality TV show "WIN: Who Is Next?" which centered on YG Entertainment's male trainees in their competition to debut in the group Winner.[3]
Life and career
Bobby was publicly introduced as a YG trainee in the first episode of "WIN: Who is Next?".[4] Bobby was part of "Team B" which ultimately lost the competition to become part of the group Winner. After "WIN" ended, Bobby made a cameo appearance in Taeyang's Ringa Linga music video.
In May 2014 Bobby successfully auditioned for the rap competition show "Show Me The Money 3."[5] As a contestant he was part of team "Illionaire" with Dok2, and The Quiett of Illionaire Records. All of Bobby's songs in the show were released digitally and ranked on Korean music charts. Bobby won the competition, competing in the final round against rappers Iron and Vasco. His victory earned him a special concert, $100,000, and the opportunity to release an album.[2]
Bobby co-wrote the lyrics for Winner's 2014 S/S title track "Empty" with Song Min-ho and B.I. The song was released with the album on August 12.[6][7]
On September 13 2014, Bobby participated in the Illionaire Records' "11:11" concert with Dok2, The Quiett, and Beenzino.[8]In October 2014, Bobby was featured in Epik High's single "Born Hater" with Beenzino, Verbal Jint, B.I, and Song Min-ho.[9]
On November 11 2014, the track "I'm Different," in which he is featured, was released by "Hi Suhyun," a unit composed of Lee Hi and Lee Suhyun from Akdong Musician.[10] In late November 2014, Bobby featured with Dok2 in the Masta Wu track "Come Here."[11]
He performed "Born Hater" with Epik High at the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards, as well as his single "YGGR" and "Come Here."[12][13] GQ Korea included him in their 2014 "Men of the Year" feature. This feature included "men who have made an impact on culture in 2014."[14]
Bobby is a part of the upcoming YG group iKON, which came into being through the audition survival show "Mix and Match." The group's full membership was finalized on the last episode which aired November 6, 2014.[15][16][17]
