Bob Gass

Bob Gass is an American-based Christian pastor, broadcaster and author of several books who was raised in Northern Ireland. He writes a daily devotional, published by United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) in the United Kingdom, called The Word For Today which has a circulation of over one million copies quarterly. Life

Bob Gass, along with his brother Neil and sister Ruth, were brought up in a strong Christian tradition by their mother after their father had died when Bob was just thirteen. He has been involved in Christian leadership for over 40 years, but much of his inspiration is based on the Biblical principles and Godly values instilled in him by his mother. He began collating his inspirational writings in 1992 and in 1993 started sending copies to friends and supporters in the United States, where he has lived since he was eighteen. He is currently based in Atlanta, Georgia.

Having a vision for Christian radio in the UK, he offered Gareth Littler (the former CEO of UCB) his devotional readings to encourage Christians in their support of UCB. In April 1994, he launched The Word For Today, with an initial print run of 3,500 copies to UCB's readers and listeners within the UK.[2] Circulation has now increased to one million copies read, not only by UCB's supporters, but also by patients in hospitals, prisoners and residents of care centres throughout the UK and Ireland.

According to Gass, "this devotional is a kick start for cold mornings, when you don't feel like reading your Bible or find it a bit dry, that's when you need a good injection of inspiration. That's what I want to provide for our readers, something to focus their minds on God's goodness".[2]

In August 2003, a version of The Word For Today, entitled The Word 4U 2Day, written in contemporary style, in 13 languages, was first produced. It has a current global circulation of 7 million copies.[2]
