In the late spring of 1984 Bob Dylan set out on a twenty-seven date European tour.[1][2]
Background
Dylan played some of the biggest and best known European music venues including Ullevi Stadion in Gothenburg, Sweden,[3][4] St. James Park in Newcastle,[5][6] England, Wembley Stadium in London, England[7][8] and Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland.[9][10]
Dylan was joined by several major musicians on the tour including Carlos Santana (all concerts),[11] Joan Baez (Hamburg and Munich),[12][13] Hughes Aufray (Paris and Grenoble),[14][15] Van Morrison (Paris, London and County Meath),[16][17][18] Eric Clapton (London),[19] Chrissie Hynde (London),[20] Bono (County Meath),[21] Leslie Dowdall (County Meath)[22] and Steve Wickham (County Meath).[23]
Real Live was released in the winter 1984 which documented Dylan's 1984 summer, released by Columbia Records. Six songs from the album were recorded at Wembley Stadium on July 7, two songs were recorded at St. James Park on July 5 and another two were recorded at Slane Castle, Ireland on July 8.[24][25]

- On May 28 Dylan premiered "I & I" and "Man of Peace". He also performed ‘Tombstone Blues’ for the first time since Berkeley, California, December 4, 1965, and "Shelter from the Storm" for the first time since Hollywood, Florida, December 16, 1978.[26]
- On June 4 Dylan performed "Tangled up in Blue" for the first time since Hollywood, Florida, December 16, 1978.[29]
- On June 16 Dylan performed "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" for the first time since Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, May 18, 1976.[30]
- On June 21 Dylan premiered "Enough Is Enough".[31] He also performed Desolation Row for the first time since St. Louis, Missouri, February 4, 1974.[32]
- On June 28 Dylan performed "Lay, Lady, Lay" for the first time since Salt Lake City, Utah, May 25, 1976.[33]
- On June 30 Dylan performed "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry" for the first time since Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 6, 1978.[34]
