Robert "Bob" Bernstein is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of the advertising company Bernstein-Rein and the founder and now chairman-CEO of the salon and spa Beauty Brands.
Career
Having graduated from University of Oklahoma with a degree in communications, Bernstein co-founded the advertising company Bernstein-Rein with Skip Rein in 1964 and serves as Chairman, CEO, President and Director of BR. He has also served as Director of Mark Twain Bancshares since 1994 and in 1995, he developed the salon and spa superstore Beauty Brands, serving as President and Principal. He gave the company over to his son, David, in 2009 but still serves as Chairman-CEO of BR.
He served as Steering Committee Member, COMBAT (Community Backed Anti-Drug Tax) Community Action Coalition in Jackson County, Missouri. He served as Director of Kansas City Art Institute and President of the Board, Starlight Theater Association. He served as Board of Governors, Jewish Community Center.[1]
Bernstein designed the Happy Meal concept for McDonalds in 1976.[2][3]
May 21, 2003 was declared “Bob Bernstein Day” by the mayor of Kansas City.[3]
Personal life
He is married to Dr. Phyliss Bernstein, a clinical psychologist. They have three children — Steve, Susan and David — who each are involved in the family businesses.[3][2]
