Blast (stylized as BL'AST!) is a California Hardcore punk and Punk rock band from Santa Cruz Los Angeles.
History
Iconic California heavy fusion act, BL’AST! has constructed a heavy timeless musical onslaught that stood on its own and has been proven with time . BL'AST! released three LP`S on SST Records. 1985-1989 Blast released their first album, The Power of Expression, in 1986. They recorded the album three times before releasing it. They first were signed by Green World Records, and toured for the album in the U.S. and played west coast shows. Blast wrote It's In My Blood and the group then caught the attention of SST Records, who signed them up for their next release, It's In My Blood in 1987. That same year, a 7-inch was released, including a cover of Alice Cooper's "School's Out". They began playing many West Coast shows and touring the U.S. They also were releasing new music on Santa Cruz Skateboard videos.
SST Records and Santa Cruz Skateboards began shared videos and merchandise bridged by Blast as Neider had worked for the skateboard company for many years. The band's third release for SST was Take The Manic Ride, released in 1989. Was recorded by Dave Rat.
In the early 1990s Blast took a break and Mike & Bill began Blackout (releasing one 7-inch under that name) and then again to LAB (who also put out a 7-inch EP, as well as a hard-to-find four-song CD you could only get along with a Santa Cruz Skateboards order), continuing into the late 90s playing many shows with Fu Manchu. Former Kyuss and Fu Manchu drummer Brant Bjork moved to Santa Cruz to briefly join LAB before joining up with Fu Manchu.
In 2001, Blast played shows on the West Coast. They were also planning to record again, but the band decided not to before this materialized.
On September 3, 2013 Southern Lord and Dave Grohl released a remixed and remastered version of "It's In My Blood", entitled Blood![1] Following that release, original vocalist Clifford Dinsmore and guitarist Mike Neider recruited Nick Oliveri (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Mondo Generator) on bass and drummer Joey Castillo (Wasted Youth,Sugar Tooth,Queens of the Stone Age,EODM) to a new Blast lineup, with plans to tour and record new material.
