Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council election, 2012
The 2012 Blaenau Gwent Council election is scheduled to take place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Blaenau Gwent Council in Wales.[1] This will be on the same day as other United Kingdom local elections, 2012.
The election was contested by:
*Blaenau Gwent Labour Party led by Hedley McCarthy and his Deputy Steve Thomas (16 before election)
*The Administration Independent Group (AIG) led by Council Leader John Mason (16 before election) +
*Blaenau Gwent People's Voice (BGPV - sat as Independents) led by Don Wilcox (5 before election) +
*Real Independent Party (RIP) led by former Council Leader Des Hillman (5 before election) +
*British National Party (BNP) (no seats before election)
+ formed the Council Executive/Administration Group

Aftermath
Labour will now form the Council Majority Group and its Executive, it is expected that Councillor Hedley McCarthy will be the Leader of the Council with Councillor Steve Thomas being Deputy Leader of the Council. It is not known yet who will fill the other cabinet positions and become Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
