Blady (Korean: 블레이디) or Blessed Lady is a five member South Korean girl group formed by SY6 Entertainment that debuted May 16, 2011.[1] The groups current members are Dayoung, Giru, Gabin, Yeeun and Tina.

History

In 2011, SY6 Entertainment debuted a girl group with four members: Darae, Bunhong (Pink), Sun Young and Kangyoon. The group released their debut song, the retro inspired[2] single "찌릿찌릿 (Spark Spark)", on May 16, 2011.[3] They received praises from hit composer Shinsadong Tiger, who's known for producing for B2ST and 4minute, as he saw in their training process that their "passion and skills" stood above many other girl groups debuting at the time. He went on to say, "In anticipation for their debut, the members have been sleeping three hours a night in order to devote everything else to their rehearsals." [4]

A follow up single titled "미친 날 (Crazy Day)" was released on July 27, 2011.[5] The music video for "Crazy Day" was shot in 3D in the Maldives by famous director Kang Young Man.[6] The clip also featured dance moves choreographed by Main Spirit who has also worked with Lee Hyori and Bada.[7]

At the end of their debuting year, the girls took home the 2011 19th Republic of Korea Culture Entertainment Awards Idol Music Rookie of the Year award[8] This solidified the group in the mainstream media.

Line up change and "Blood Type B Girl"

Blady was thought to have officially disbanded in 2013, but they released a new single "B형 여자 (Blood Type B Girl)" on November 18, 2013[9] as a five member group now being signed to Star Planet., with Kangyoon being the only first generation member to return, she was promoted to leader status in the group. This comeback saw the addition of new members Coco, Tina, Yeji and Soojin. Coco and Tina are from the United States and speak fluent English.

The single release of "Blood Type B Girl" also saw a new remixed version of "Crazy Day" titled "Bring Bring" with a stronger hip hop and rock flavor. "Blood Type B Girl" is a collaboration between renowned producer C-Luv (who has produced for Rain, MBLAQ and Kim Hyun Joong) and songwriter Stay Tuned. The song features a funky urban electronic beat and draws inspiration from the fact that all the members of Blady have blood type B.[10]

Third member line up, Renovation and "Come Closer"

In late 2014 it was revealed that Coco, Kangyoon, and Yeji had left the group and new members Giru and Dayoung had taken their place. A few months later it was announced that Soojin had also left the group, and on March 6 it was announced that 2 new members Yeeun and Gabin, a former member of the female duet 2nB, would be added to the line up. A showcase for March 9 in Seoul was announced to kick off promotions for their mini album 'Renovation'. On March 30, 2015 Blady released their music video for "Come Closer" featuring Tina alongside new members.

Subunits

Yeji and Soojin released their single "떠나가지마 (Please Don't Leave Me)" to commemorate White Day as the subunit Blady Soul.[11] Yeji taking the lead while Soojin contributes a rap verse. The song uses a classical guitar melody and is much more of an R&B style than they're main group's singles.[12]
