Blackwater railway station, was an intermediate station in the very centre of the island[1] situated on the A3020 road[2] on the line from Newport to Sandown incorporated by the Isle of Wight and Newport Junction Railway in 1868,[3] opened in 1875 and closed 81 years later.[4] A rural station whose “heyday was before the advent of the motor car”,[5] during the inter-war years it was known for its large collection of enamel advertising boards.[6] The station survives as an enlarged private house[7] known as Brambles.
