Athletics
Blackhawk Christian, home of the Braves, has had a history of successful athletic programs. In recent years the high school baseball program has received statewide recognition in winning class 1A state titles in 2002, 2005 and 2006. The boys basketball team, also competing in class 1A, won the sectional championship in 2008 for the seventh straight season, all under former coach Gary Merrell. The run included one state runner-up title in 2004 and regional championships in 2003, 2004 and 2005. The boys soccer team has recently joined in the winning ways. Under the direction of 25 year head coach and biology teacher Bob Freeborn, the Braves won their first sectional championship in the fall of 2008 then repeated in 2009.
