The black-throated canary (Serinus atrogularis), alternatively known as the yellow-rumped seedeater, is a species of finch in the Fringillidae family.
Distribution
It is found frequently in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, dry savanna, and subtropical or tropical dry shrubland.
Taxonomy
Serinus atrogularis and S. reichenowi (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) have been lumped into S. atrogularis following Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993).
