Birome, Texas

Location of Birome in the state of Texas.

Birome is an unincorporated community in south central Hill County in Central Texas. It is located approximately fifteen miles south of Hillsboro, at the intersection of FM 308 and County Road 3238.^[1]

The community was established in 1910 as a shipping point on the International-Great Northern Railroad. The name Birome is a portmanteau derived from the names of Bickham and James Cartwright, brothers who owned the 4,800-acre (19 km²) ranch on which the community was built.^[1]

Birome had an estimated population of thirty-one in 2000. Area students attend school in the nearby town of Penelope (Penelope ISD).
