Bintang Beer (Indonesian: Bir Bintang, literally "Star Beer") is a brand of beer in Indonesia and is produced by PT Multi Bintang Indonesia Tbk, part of Heineken.[1]

The beer is styled as an American Pale Lager, yellow in colour with an ideal serving temperature of 7 °C. The 4.7 per cent Pilsner has a malt and hop flavour. Its taste is often compared to Heineken, and the Bintang bottle is reminiscent of a Heineken bottle, indeed the red star (bintang) on the bottle is the same as the one on the Heineken bottle. Bintang makes an alcohol free beer, packaged in a blue bottle and called Bintang Zero and a shandy-type product called Green Sands—a beer mixed with lime that has less than 1% alcohol.[2]

Construction of the brewery began in Surabaya in 1929 during Dutch colonial rule of Indonesia.[3] In 1949, following Indonesian independence, the brewery was renamed 'Heineken's Indonesian Brewery Company'. In 1957 the Indonesian Government appropriated the brewery, and retained control for the next ten years. In 1967 Heineken resumed operations of the brewery, which was later renamed "Multi Bintang Indonesia".[3]

In 2011, Bintang Beer won the Gold Medal for Lager Beer Category and awarded as 'Champion Beer 2011' at the world's class beer competition, the Brewing Industry International Award (BIIA 2011) in London.[4]

Bir Bintang brand was awarded as Top 50 Most Valuable Indonesian Brand 2013 by Brand Finance.
