Anderson served on the staff of Senator Chuck Grassley from 1999-2007. Currently he serves as the Military Academy Coordinator and Policy Advisor to Congressman Steve King. He served for three terms on the Iowa Republican State Central Committee. He was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2010.[2][1]

Anderson was born and raised in Sioux City. He is a graduate of Sioux City Public Schools, and is a veteran of the Army National Guard. He has served on the congressional staffs of Senator Chuck Grassley and Congressman Steve King, in their district offices.

Anderson and his wife, Angie, have a son and two daughters. The couple reside on acreage near Pierson, Iowa. They own and operate Anderson Professional Services, an accounting, bookkeeping and investment business in Sioux City.

Anderson serves as the Ranking Member of the Commerce Committee. His other committee assignments include State Government, Labor and Business, and the Transportation, Infrastructure and Capital Budget Sub Committee.
