Big Narstie is an English Grime artist from Brixton, London. Big Narstie started his career in 2004 as a member of grime crew N Double A but is best known for his solo work as well as for being a internet personality.[1]

Career

2006–2011

In 2006 Big Narstie signed to independent urban label, Dice Recordings. Sampling Coldplay's Spun A Web featuring Shystie, Solo, LMan and Demon it was one of the first grime/indie mix tracks to be supported by Jez Welham (KISS FM), Tim Westwood (BBC Radio 1), DJ Cameo (1Xtra) and Hotsteppa (Choice FM).[2] His track Brushman featuring N Double A member Solo received the accolade of being RWD Magazines 'Song of the year.' Big Narstie has featured on records including Professor Green’s Before I Die Remix[3] which also featured Example, Plan-B, and Ghetts. He appeared on N-Dubz vs N.A.A[4] by Camden group N-Dubz which was from their debut album Uncle B. Big Narstie continued to record and released three other mixtapes Mind Of A Fat Guy,[5] Drugs And Chicken, I’m Betta Than U[6] which had guest appearances from Giggs, Scorcher and Wretch 32.

2012

Big Narstie released his first mix CD of the year in February called Pain Overload. Pain Is Love was released shortly after in July for free download via SB.TV.[7] Big Narstie's first official E.P, #PAIN was released in October and entered at number 5 in the iTunes UK Hip Hop chart and he won the 2012 Urban Music Award (UMAs) for Best Grime Act beating artists like Skepta, Lethal Bizzle and Dot Rotten.[8]

2013

In 2013, he joined the label WagWan polish rapper Popek.[9][10] Big Narstie released his second EP Don’t Fuck Up The Base.[11] The EP Big Narstie was the highest selling grime EP of 2013. He also had a Don’t Fuck up the Base EP launch party,[12] which featured music artists, Flirta D, Mic Righteous, Scrufizzer, Kozzie and DJ's, DJ Cameo, Charlie Sloth, DJ Logan Sama.

He performed at a number of festivals across Europe including The Wireless Festival,[13] A Day In Dam with English Frank and Black The Ripper, the Hip Hop Kemp Festival in Czech Republic[14] and The Outlook Festival in Croatia.[15] He also won UMA 2013 Best Grime Act award for the second year in a row.[16] At the end of 2013 he released an EP Hello Hi. with True Tiger. Noisey named Big Narstie as their name of 2013.[17] and he also reviewed the year at Fact magazine.[18]

2014

Big Narstie released What's The Story Brixton Glory Part II, where he covered various Britpop classics by artists such as Oasis. He has a tour called Base Defence League (BDL) that is around the UK in March which has a host of music artists supporting him.[19]

Other activities

Away from music, Big Narstie has featured in the Channel 4 sitcom Dubplate Drama alongside N-Dubz and Shystie. He has also had a guest appearance in the urban films Anuvahood and London State of Mind. He is appearing in Krish and Lee in which he stars alongside Jodie Marsh and Dave Courtney.

Big Narstie is also known for his sense of humour and has featured in many YouTube videos including his parody agony aunt style series Uncle Pain.
