Bhaluka (Bengali: ভালুকা) is an Upazila of Mymensingh District in the Division of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Geography

Bhaluka is located at 24°22′30″N 90°22′40″E / 24.3750°N 90.3778°E; It has 53222 units of house hold and total area 444.05 km².It is bounded by Fulbaria and Trishal upazilas on the north, Sreepur upazila on the south, Gaffargaon upazila on the east and Sakhipur and Ghatail upazilas on the west. Main rivers: Sutia, Khiru, Lalti and Bajua,

Demographics

As of the 1991 Bangladesh census, Bhaluka has a population of 264991. Males constitute 51.08% of the population, and females 48.92%. This Upazila's eighteen up population is 137860. Bhaluka has an average literacy rate of 24.1% (7+ years), and the national average of 32.4% literate.

Administration

Bhaluka thana, now an upazila, was established in 1917. It turned into upozilla at 1983. The upazila consists of 11 union parishads, 87 mouzas and 102 villages.at present bhaluka is model thana first time of Bangladesh.

Historical events

During the war of liberation Afsar Uddin Ahmed (Sub Sector Commandar of Sector 11) locally trained Muktibahini, collected arms and ammunitions and challenged the Pakistan army. Late Shah Ali Akbar was a valiant freedom fighter. He along with Afsar uddin organize Mukti bahini ( freedom fighter) at Bhaluka.

Total 308758; male 158003, female 150755; Muslim 294361, Hindu 13499, Buddhist 643, Christian 22 and others 233. Indigenous communities such as garo, Bangshi and Mandai belong to this upazila.

Banana, jack fruit, guava, sugarcane, vegetables, cotton, egg and chicken.
