American singer and songwriter Beyoncé has released sixteen albums (including five studio albums, four extended plays, four live albums, one soundtracks and two compilation albums), and sixty-five singles (including ten as a featured artist, eight promotional singles and five charity singles). She has sold over 118 million records as a solo artist,[1] and a further 60 million with Destiny's Child,[2][3] making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[4][5] The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recognized her as the Top Certified Artist of the 2000s decade.[6] To date, Beyoncé has sold 15.8 million albums and 46.2 million digital songs in the United States.[7]
Beyoncé's career began as lead vocalist of Destiny's Child. She released her first solo album, Dangerously in Love (2003), during the hiatus of Destiny's Child.[8] It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and produced the singles "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", "Me, Myself and I", "Naughty Girl" and "The Closer I Get to You". With "Crazy in Love" and Dangerously in Love, Beyoncé became the first female artist—and the fifth artist ever—to top both the singles and albums charts simultaneously in the United States and the United Kingdom.[9] In 2003, "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy" peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for eight and nine weeks, respectively.[10] Dangerously in Love has sold 11 million copies worldwide.[11]
After the disbandment of Destiny's Child in 2005,[12] Beyoncé released "Check on It" featuring Slim Thug for The Pink Panther soundtrack.[13] The single topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for five weeks,[14] and was later included on her second studio album, B'Day (2006), which produced six singles, including top-ten hits "Déjà Vu", "Irreplaceable" and "Beautiful Liar". "Ring the Alarm" became Beyoncé's highest debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, entering at number twelve in 2006,[15] whereas "Irreplaceable" remained at the top of the same chart for ten consecutive weeks in 2006–07, becoming her longest running single at the pole position of the chart.[16] As of September 2013, B'Day has sold over 8 million copies worldwide,[17] and as of January 2014, 3.36 million copies in the US.[18]
Beyoncé's third album, I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008), was a dual disc album, intended to reflect the two facets of her personality.[19] It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart[20] and included the singles "If I Were a Boy", "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks,[21] "Halo" and "Sweet Dreams". I Am... Sasha Fierce sold 3.12 million copies in the United States,[18] and the album has sold over 8 million copies worldwide as of March 2011.[22] Beyoncé's fourth studio album, 4, was released in June 2011 and debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart.[23] The album's first two singles, "Run the World (Girls)" and "Best Thing I Never Had", both reached the top ten in several charts worldwide, whilst the fourth single "Love on Top" topped the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for seven consecutive weeks.[24] As of May 2013, 4 has sold 3 million copies worldwide[25] and, as of July 2014, 1.41 million copies in the US.[26]
Beyoncé's self-titled fifth album, Beyoncé, was unexpectedly released to the iTunes Store in December 2013 without any promotion and debuted atop the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming her fifth consecutive number one album in the United States. After just three days of sales, Beyoncé became the fastest selling album ever on iTunes, both in the US and worldwide.[27] The album's biggest hit was "Drunk in Love", which reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.[28]
