Best Fiction is Namie Amuro's third best-of compilation under the Avex Trax label. The album includes 15 tracks selected from singles released between 2002 and 2008, in addition to two new songs: "Sexy Girl" and "Do Me More," which were both used to promote the album. The album was also released in two formats, a CD-only version and a CD+DVD combination on July 30, 2008.

Best Fiction has been certified 'Million' by RIAJ for shipment of one million copies. It had the highest first week album sales in 2008,[2] until it was surpassed by Exile's Ballad Best. It was the second highest selling album of 2008 according to the Oricon Yearly Album Chart, behind Exile's Exile Love. Oricon counts those sales from December of the prior year. This is Amuro's highest selling release since 181920. She is also the first female solo singer since 1979 to have an album occupy the number-one spot on the Oricon Chart for 6 weeks in a row. Best Fiction is the 149th Best-selling album of all time in Japan. It was also the 38th best selling album in the world in 2008.[3]

The title for the best-of compilation was first revealed on the website for NHK series "Otome no Punch" on its FAQ.[4]

Best Fiction's front cover depicts a stylized, heavily airbrushed Amuro on top of a classic automobile.[5] Amuro commented that the image was chosen because it reflected the album's title.[6]

Singles

Two new original songs included on the album have been released for promotion. Unlike all previous songs included on the album neither has gotten a separate physical release. The first of the two new songs, "Sexy Girl" was used as the theme song for NHK six-part series, "Otome no Punch." [7] The second new song, "Do Me More," was used in a second series of commercials for Vidal Sassoon following the first campaign with Amuro's single "60s 70s 80s."[8] "Do Me More" features an interpolation of "Thunder and Blazes." Both songs leaked in full onto the internet on July 1.
