Bernard Donaghy (23 December 1882 – 1 July 1916)[2] was an Irish footballer, whose regular position was as an inside forward. He was born in Derry, and played for Derry Celtic, Hibernian,[3] Manchester United, Glentoran, and Burnley. He also made one international appearance for Ireland, playing against Scotland at the Balmoral Showgrounds in 1902.[2] During the First World War he was a soldier in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers regiment of the British Army.[4] He was killed in the first day of fighting at the Battle of the Somme.[5]
