Agriculture

A Mustard Field in Akhetpur, Beohari.

Agriculture is counted as the chief economic occupation of the People. From recent years Mustard Farming has become one of the most harvesting crop in Beohari due to balance temperature and the soil of the field which is loose, friable and deep.

The main crops are paddy, cereals like maize, Sorghum, kodo-kutki and other small millets, pulses like tuar and udhad and oil seeds like Til, groundnut, soya-bean and sunflower are also grown.

But A very substantial portion of the population is dependent on agriculture. mainly the tribals are marginal farmers and they prefer the cultivation in the old traditional method. The size of the fields are also very small. The yearly yield of the products from the fields are not enough for their home use. Hence, for the rest part of the year they work on daily wages.

Being mountainous area, Only 9% of the total crop gets irrigation facility. Tribals prefer the cultivation in the old traditional method and depend mainly on rain. The area irrigated by canals, tubewells, dugwells and tanks. Some part of the place are in the shore of Banas River & Jhapar Rivar. In this area was mainly production of wheat and rice in india. In beohari the highest number of growing wheat. For agriculter there are many rivers in thie area they known as sonbhadra (son river),banas samdhen, and jhapar... In this area a dam was built in 2001 this dam created by m.p. government and we also called shivraj government. This dam is was very helpful in agriculture.
