Benti is a village in Kunda tehsil in Pratapgarh district of Indian state Uttar Pradesh.[1] The village is located on the bank of river Ganges and near by village Bhadri.

Legend

According to a legend of Baba Haudeshwar (Awadheshwar) Nath Dham, a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva situated at Shahpur village in Kunda, “Benti” is a word derived from word "Vedi" that originated from Sanskrit word “Ved” and later "Vedi" were to be known as “Vendi “or “Bendi” and finally it called “Benti”.

Geography

It is located at 25°54′58″N 81°51′39″E / 25.91609°N 81.86073°E[2] Its evaluation is about 110 meters above Seal level. The town is situated on the bank of Ganges River. Benti is surrounded by Bihar towards East, Kara tehsil towards west, Babaganj towards north, Rampur Sanramgarh towards north .[3]

Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Birds Sanctuary

Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Birds Sanctuary or Benti Lake is located in village Benti that lake spread more than 1,000 acres, which the Kumari Mayawati government converted into a bird sanctuary in 2003.[4]

Benti Kothi

It is here, in the multi-acre Benti Kothi (palace) with fortress like entrance, where Kunwar Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, legislator of Kunda and former state cabinet minister, lives and where he holds his weekly Janta Darbars as hails from Bhadri royal family. Benti Kothi is also famous as Raja Bhaiya Ka Ghar (Raja Bhaiya’s residence), which is one of the noted attractions for visitors.

Demography

As of recent census, Benti is a village with a population of about 8,000.

Transport

It is located 54 kilometers west of district headquarters Pratapgarh and 160 kilometers from state capital Lucknow. Kunda Harnamgnj railway station and Bhadri railway station are the very nearby railway stations to Benti. However, Allahabad Junction is a major railway station 48 kilometers from Benti.[5]
