Benjamin Campbell (spy)

Benjamin Campbell

Born 1884
Died 1941 (aged 57-58)

Benjamin Campbell (1884 – 1941) was a British agent for Special Operations Executive in the Second World War. He was the only operative in the Channel Islands, he was approached by SOE prior to the demilitarisation. He was approached due to his reputable nature, though his brother's role appointed by the Nazis was not forseen, and worried Campbell; his brother Edward Campbell was elected in the Jersey election, 1940. His usefulness to SOE was limited, but he managed to report on troop numbers and defences. He disappeared from records in 1941, though nothing can be found on his cause of death, suicide and murder have been touted, along with a burglary gone wrong.[1]
