Bengal Institute of Technology (BIT) is an engineering college in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India. It is currently under the West Bengal University of Technology and is a part of Techno India group. The Institute is situated on Basanti Highway a few kilometers off from downtown Kolkata. It is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology and is approved by the AICTE.

History

Bengal Institute of Technology was established in the year 2000 under the aegis of Techno-India Group which has the distinction of largest number of Engineering Colleges in West Bengal. The Group is engaged in development of tertiary level Technical Manpower to serve the emerging knowledge-based Society.

Location

Bengal Institute of Technology's education city has its campus in Hadia, on Basanti highway, Kolkata near the Leather Complex, 15 minutes from Science City.

Infrastructure

Bengal Institute of Technology offers the most modern infrastructure. Well equipped labs, top notch project labs and spacious conference rooms are available. The class rooms are equipped with projectors for better understanding.

Campus

The campus has separate hostels for boys and girls. It is a complete Wi-Fi campus with fully automated library and a student activity centre for co-curricular and extracurricular activities.^[1]

Fests

The Bengal Institute of Technology hosts its annual cultural fest "Impulse" at Nazrul Mancha. With a history of having a variety of Artists performing, "Impulse" is regarded as one of the best cultural fests of Kolkata.

The annual technical fest named "Bits2Bytes" hosts a number of events in robotics, gaming, projects and quizzes.

Central Library

The Central Library consists of a number of department libraries which collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of the institute. All students, faculty members and employees are entitled to use the library facilities on taking membership. The library besides having a huge collection of books on engineering, science and bioinformatics, humanities and social sciences. It uses Libsys/SIM software package which is an integrated multi-user library management system that supports all in-house operations. Libsys consists of modules on acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, serials, article indexing and OPAC. The Central Library has 1762 titles, 19953 volumes, 17 national journals, 6300+ e-journals, 5 magazines.^[2]

Bengal Institute of Technology is a new age educational institution providing quality education in a wide spectrum of disciplines. BIT has set up five departments:

Admissions

Admission to engineering programmes: 10+2 examination with Physics and Maths as compulsory subjects along with one subject Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Computer Science/Biology with minimum pass marks and WBJEE/AIEEE qualified.
