Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is a safari lodge situated in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The Okavango Delta was voted the 1,000th UNESCO World Heritage Site.[1] It is one of the few delta systems in the world which does not flow into the sea.
The lodge is one of three that comprise Belmond Safaris, the others being Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge and Belmond Khwai River Lodge. All three are reached from Maun, Botswana and interconnected by light aircraft flights.
Belmond Eagle Island Lodge consists of tented accommodation with traditional African thatched roofs, on raised wooden platforms. All tents have private decks with hammocks, and views over watercourses where animals come to drink. Wildlife in the area includes a wide range of species, such as cheetah, white rhino and lion.[2] Its profuse bird life includes the African fish eagle, which may be spotted at the camp or on safaris by local traditional makoro canoe.
All three lodges that form Belmond Safaris were acquired by Orient-Express Hotels in 1992 under their original name of Gametrackers. In 2014 the company changed its name to Belmond Ltd. and the lodge was renamed Belmond Eagle Island Lodge [3]
