Miss USA 2010 (Top 15)

Belinda Renee Wright (born 1988) is an African American beauty pageant contestant from Scotia, Nebraska who competed in the Miss USA pageant in 2010. Belinda was first runner the year before to Meagan Winings Miss Nebraska 2009, who would later crown Wright as her successor.

Miss USA 2010

Belinda Wright, 21, represented Nebraska at the Miss USA 2010 pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 16, 2010 where she competed against District of Colombia and fifty other delegates. Wright made the first cut by advancing to the top 15 on the finals competing in the swimsuit round. She was ultimately placed in the 14th position, but was later named the pageants Miss Congeniality winner.[1] Belinda was ranked as 8/1 in Vegas as favorites to take home the crown from the Midwestern United States. Many fans believe Wright should have advance further in the competition but she receive rather low score from the judges.[2] Wright placement is remarkable because the last Miss Nebraska to ever place was Rebecca Staab in Miss USA 1980 who made the top 12. Wright was awarded a $1,000 cash prize as well as a Flip MinoHD Video Camcorder and jewelry from Diamond Nexus Labs for being voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants.[3][4] Wright’s reign ended Oct. 24, 2010, when she helped crown Miss Nebraska USA 2011. Wright said the end was bittersweet, but she doesn’t plan to compete in any more pageants. After her December 2010 UNL graduation, her plans include graduate school and possibly a different side of pageant work.[5]

Personal life

Belinda Wright graduated from North Loup-Scotia Public School in 2006 and from the University of Nebraska in 2010 with degrees in Textile and Clothing Design and Journalism. She is currently pursuing her master's degree.[6] Her hometown, Scotia, has a population of only 300. Belinda's mom, Crystal Wright, said the entire town is rooting on their girl. While competing at Miss USA 2010, Wright returned home on May 8 after her father Harry Wright, 55, was killed when his John Deere skid steer ran into and pinned him while he was repairing fences. Wright later returned to Las Vegas prior to the preliminary competition on May 11, 2010. "I'm dedicating the entire event to my father. He was so proud and so excited to go watch," Belinda wrote via email.[7]
