Belgorod State University (BelSU) (Russian: Белгородский государственный университет (БелГУ)) is one of the oldest universities in Belgorod, Russia.

In 1876 the Belgorod normal school was founded. In 1939 this school was reorganised into the Belgorod Teacher's Training College that existed up to 1994. In 1996 the College got University status, and in 2000 in conformity with decision of examination board it obtained status of public academic institution. To date the University includes 21 faculties and one institute, 89 departments, 39 research centres and laboratories, 2 branches, it offers 121 professions and a speciality of secondary and higher vocational training. Belgorod State University is placed upon 3 different areas.

The institution also held an international program dedicated exclusively to the teaching of Russian language around the world and in the university itself. It counts with a separate faculty where foreign students can live and attend to language courses. It also manages a group of teachers and experts stationed in different countries. This kind of personnel generally merges with the most important local Russian culture centers to enforce the influence and effectiveness of these institutions.

In 2010, the University was designed by the federal government as one of only a handful of National Research Universities. This designation has brought additional resources to the University and has fostered the continued development of the University's campus.[1]
