Presidential elections were held in Belarus on 9 September 2001.[1] The result was a victory for Alexander Lukashenko, who received 77.4% of the vote. Voter turnout was 83.9%.[2] The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe noted that the elections were "not democratic" and not free and fair.[3]
