Bedford Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 580 at the 2010 census.[1] Bedford Park consists of a small residential area and vast amounts of heavy industry sprawling to the east and a small amount to the west.
Geography
Bedford Park is located at 41°45′9″N 87°47′9″W / 41.75250°N 87.78583°W (41.768508, -87.785803).[2]
According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 6.04 square miles (15.6 km2), of which 5.93 square miles (15.4 km2) (or 98.18%) is land and 0.11 square miles (0.28 km2) (or 1.82%) is water.[3]
Demographics
As of the census[4] of 2000, there were 574 people, 211 households, and 160 families residing in the village. The population density was 96.2 people per square mile (37.1/km²). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 36.5 per square mile (14.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.86% White, 1.05% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.17% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.62% of the population.
The top three ancestries reported in Bedford Park as of the 2000 census were Irish (26.2%), German (24.9%) and Polish (19.6%).[5]
There were 211 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village the population was spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 87.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $49,722, and the median income for a family was $57,250. Males had a median income of $37,438 versus $31,875 for females. The per capita income for the village was $22,887. About 2.9% of families and 2.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 3.8% of those age 65 or over.
Government
Bedford Park is in Illinois' 3rd congressional district.
Public education
Elementary and middle school students attend school in Summit District 104. High school students move onto Argo Community High School District 217 in Summit.
Business
The Institute for Food Safety and Health is located in Bedford Park, and is adjacent to the Corn Products International plant. It is affiliated with the Illinois Institute of Technology and the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.[6]
