Becky Want

Rebecca Elizabeth Want (born 13 June 1961) is a radio and television broadcaster, based in Manchester.

Radio career

Want has worked for Manchester radio stations Piccadilly Radio and Key 103.[1][2] She has been a radio host for BBC Radio Manchester for over 5 years[2] where she presents the weekday afternoon show on BBC Radio Manchester. She also presents Becky Want's Retail Therapy, a Saturday morning show broadcast.[1]

TV career

Want has been a face on 'What's New' alongside Tony Wilson,'Traveller's Check' with Stuart Hall (presenter),[1] 'Livetime', 'Psychic Livetime' and 'Predictions' for Granada Breeze.[3] She has worked for ITV's 'Livetalk' and 'Which Way'.[3] She has presented Inside Out North West for BBC North West and features on Channel M's 'Moving Manchester'.[3] She also starred in a Beryl Bainbridge production on BBC One[1]

Charity work

She is an ambassador for the Prince's trust[1][4] She ran the London Marathon in 2010 for Manchester's Christie Hospital[4][5] and in 2011 she ran the Great Manchester Run for the same charity.[6] She took part in Comic Relief 2011 and was challenged to perform as a stand up comedian[4] at the 'Frog and Bucket' comedy club in Manchester.[7] She is listed as a key supporter of the Moore Foundation.[8]

Personal life

She was born in Stockport in Greater Manchester and she studied drama at university. Her career began as a secretary at a radio station where she was given the opportunity to go on air.[1] She has a son, Isaac[1]
