Beautiful Monsters was the North American arena tour co-headlined by American rock bands Hole and Marilyn Manson in 1999. It was launched in support of both group's respective third full-length studio LPs, Celebrity Skin and Mechanical Animals (both released in 1998).

The tour was supposed to run until May 1999.[1] [2] The tour was set so that Manson would close the shows in the beginning of the tour and also select the opening band, Monster Magnet, during this time.[3][4] Starting with the performance in East Rutherford on April 6, Hole was to take over the headlining slot and selection of the opening band, Imperial Teen.[5] The tour garnered a large amount of media attention including a 30-minute MTV special and daily updates of the tour's progression.

Following the implosion between the headliners, Marilyn Manson continued the tour, renaming Beautiful Monsters into the Rock Is Dead Tour.

Shortly after the tour started, Hole vocalist Courtney Love could no longer take the nightly exchange of insults between herself and Manson during their respective sets and decided to drop off from the tour. Turnouts for the show were primarily Manson fans, who were not very interested in the Hole performance. Hole also pointed to the financial arrangement for the bands (50/50 cost and revenue splitting) was a reason for discontinuing the tour. Hole had relatively little production costs and ending up paying a large amount for Manson's high cost production. [6][7] The tour was then renamed "Rock Is Dead Tour" which caused a minor dispute with Korn and Rob Zombie as the two were already in the middle of a tour of the same name.[8]

Manson would suffer a hairline fracture on one of his ankles during the imploding tour's final show in Los Angeles. This would cause the first two dates of the "Rock Is Dead Tour" to be cancelled.[6]
