History

About Beauties of South Sudan

Beauties of South Sudan (BOSS) is a beauty pageant founded by the first ever Miss World Africa tittle holder from South Sudan and South Sudan Ambassador for Culture, Miss Atong Demach. It is organized by Demach Productions, Ltd. (DEMACH), of which Miss Atong Demach serves as CEO. The purpose is to promote the culture of South Sudan at international pageants, promote environmental advocacy and empower young South Sudanese girls to achieve their dreams.

DEMACH organises beauties of South Sudan pageants, recruits, trains and sends one girl every year to represent South Sudan at Miss International, Miss Earth and Miss Grand International, respectively. The first edition of BOSS was held in the capital Juba on 30 June, 2013, where a large number of South Sudanese, Government officials and international beauty pageant winners, including Miss Indonesia, Miss Earth and former Miss Philippines earth attended and witnessed the crowning of the first BOSS winners. This was also the first time in history when any international beauty queen visited South Sudan.

2013-present: Beauties of South Sudan's creation

When Beauties of South Sudan was created, the pageant is the license holders for Miss Earth and Miss International. As part of their promotion, they invited Tereza Fajksova, the Miss Earth 2012 winner, and she has become the first beauty queen to ever set foot in the land of South Sudan in 2013. She went to South Sudan for various environmental activities as well as to crown the very first Miss Earth South Sudan from Beauties of South Sudan franchise, which was won by Gloria Karsis.

In 2014, Beauties of South Sudan got the franchise for Miss Grand International. Janelee Chaparro, Miss Grand International 2013, also visited South Sudan the same year to promote the pageant's campaign as well as to crown South Sudan's representative for the pageant. The crown went to Akan William, however, Beauties of South Sudan decided not to allow William to compete as she was not able to fulfill her duties as one of the winners. Diana Stevens, the first runner up, took over the title and went on to compete.[5] However, as the pageant concluded, she was not called to be part of the semi-finals.

Siran Samuel and Sarah Gabrial were supposed to compete in Miss Earth 2014 and Miss International 2014, respectively. However, Beauties of South Sudan decided to withdraw for unprecedented circumstances that were out of their control, and would resume their participation the following year (2015).[6]
