Beaumont Primary School

Beaumont Primary School is a primary school in Purley, Surrey. There are just over 100 pupils, ranging from 4–11 years of age. A large percentage of the pupils are of ethnic minority, and speak English as an additional language. The six school years and a reception class occupy five classrooms. Beaumont's headteacher is Mrs Linda Harvey, who joined the school in 2001.

History

Beaumont Primary School was opened in 1968[1] when the local orphanage in Reedham was closed. The school field was once a pig farm.

Place in the community

Selected pupils take part in the annual children's concert at Fairfield Halls, Croydon. The school has a close bond with The Hayes Primary, and St. Nicholas, a special-needs school situated next to Beaumont.

Location

The school has a field, and two playgrounds for juniors and infants. There used to be a small pond at the back of the school, and there is an orchard bearing apples and damsons. There is a nursery at the front of the school, within the grounds. Beaumont's local church is St. Barnabas' Church, on Foxley Hill, where each year the pupils walk to for their harvest festival.
