Beau Schmitz (born March 16, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Schmitz trained with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program during the 2007–08 AHL season, and won a silver medal with Team USA at the 2008 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He then joined the Plymouth Whalers, who had picked him in the first round (19th overall) in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection, where he played major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) from 2008 to 2012. His outstanding play was recognized when he was named to the 2011–12 OHL Third All-Star Team.
On April 23, 2012, the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL) signed Schmitz as an undrafted free agent to a three-year, entry-level contract.[1] His began his professional career in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades, but also played 21 games with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL during the 2012–13 season.[2]
