Beans On Toast is a British folk singer from Essex, who rose to out of the UK folk scene in 2005. He has six studios albums and has traditionally released a new record each year on his birthday, 1 December.
History
After playing regular acoustic nights and amassing a cult following throughout 2005-6, Beans On Toast opened Glastonbury Festival in 2007 and has played each year since.[1] He supported Kate Nash at London's Hammersmith Apollo in 2008 [2] and released his debut 50-track double album 'Standing On A Chair' in 2009. Produced by Ben Lovett from Mumford & Sons, it featured guest vocals by Emmy The Great, Frank Turner and members of The Holloways, amongst many others.
Along with the Ian Grimble produced 2012 follow-up ‘Writing On The Wall’ both albums were well received and gained rave reviews in the Sunday Times and the Mirror alongside air play on 6Music, XFM, Radio 1 and 2. Beans On Toast also performed and recorded as part of the 2012 Communion Records collaborations, featuring Lissie, Angus & Julia Stone and Mumford & Sons,[3]
Third album 'Trying to tell the Truth' was released in 2011 and was produced by the singer Frank Turner, with Beans later going on to be the support act for Frank Turner’s sold out Wembley Arena show in April 2012. He also headlined a sold out Scala show in Kings Cross, London, which was captured and released as the ‘Live at Scala’ album in 2013. His fifth album ‘Giving Everything’ was released on 1 December 2013 and made it into the top ten of the iTunes’ Singer Songwriter Charts. In 2014 performed to over 100,000 in one week opening Frank Turner’s UK stadium tour.
In 2014, Beans On Toast toured America for the first time playing his own headline shows and several dates with Irish-American punk band Flogging Molly. He also released a limited edition 10” in the UK entitled ‘Best of Toast Pressed On A Vinyl’ for Record Store Day 2014 in April. His latest album ‘The Grand Scheme of Things’ was released in December 2014 and as part of the promotional tour, Beans On Toast played his biggest ever headline show at London’s Electric Ballroom. In 2015, Beans On Toast has plans to tour both the US and the UK again as well as play a number of festivals around the world.
