"Be Natural" is the second single by South Korean girl group Red Velvet. The song is a remake of the 2000 song of the same name by S.E.S. The song was released on October 13, 2014.
Background and release
"Be Natural" is a remake of the 2000 song of the same name by S.E.S., a former girl group and also the first girl group of S.M. Entertainment.[1] Members Seulgi and Irene previously performed the original in a pre-debut video which was uploaded on S.M. Entertainment's official YouTube Account as part of promotions for their pre-debut group, SMROOKIES, which three of the members were a part of.[2]
The first teaser was released on October 6, 2014, showing all four girls in suits, hinting at a transition to a more mature concept from their first single, "Happiness".[3] More teasers were released before the group made their comeback stage on M! Countdown on October 9. S.M. Entertainment released the music video for the song on their official YouTube account hours later. The single, on the other hand, wasn't released until October 13.
Music video
The music video was directed by Shim Jaewon, who also worked with renowned choreographer, Kyle Hanagami, for the choreography.[4] The music video shows the original choreography seen in the pre-debut clip of members Irene and Seulgi when they performed the song in an SMROOKIES video. It also features SR14B member, Taeyong, doing the rap parts.
Live performances
Red Velvet made their comeback stage on Mnet's M! Countdown on October 9, followed by performances on Music Bank, Music Core, Inkigayo and Show Champion.
Chart performance
"Be Natural" debuted at number 33 on the Gaon Singles Chart.
