Bayya Suryanarayana Murthy, a.k.a. B. S. Murthy BA, B.Ed. (Telugu: బయ్యా సూర్యనారాయణ మూర్తి) (29 October 1906 – 1979) was a journalist, poet, short story writer, essayist, and a six-term Parliamentarian- the only MP from South India to Bayya Suryanarayana Murthy also known by the initials B.S. Murthy BA, B.Ed was an author a politician and a parliamentarian who served people. He was born in 1906 to B. Nagaiah at Nagaram in Razole taluq which is east Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.\ \ He graduated that is B.A, B.Ed from Government Arts College at Rajamundry, Christian college and at a law college in Madras. His proficiency in English earned him a gold medal and also for inter-collegiate debates and elocutions won various trophies. He served also as the vice president of the Andhra Provincial Journalists\'92 Association.\ \ In the year 1937 he was elected the member of parliament of Madras Legislative Assembly under the affiliate party Indian national congress. He then became the minister for industries and labor of Madras Government in 1937 to 1939 and also in 1946 to 1947.\ \ He was involved in Indian freedom movement and took part in individual Satyagraha.In 1940 and 1942 he quit the Indian movement and was imprisoned for a period of about two years. In the year 1952 after India got its independence he contested for the Eluru constituency and was elected therefore becoming the first Lok Sabba. In 1957 he contested as the Kakinada Member of Parliament under the Indian national congress and won the election.\ \ In the years 1962, 1967 and1942 he was elected to the Lok Sabba for the Amalapuram constituency. Between the years 1962 to 1967 he served as the deputy minister for health and family welfare in the union cabinet. Others positions he served in were the member of parliamentary delegation to china in the year 1956,in March 1958 ministry of community development and cooperation, parliamentary secretary and in March 1959 to January 1966 was the deputy minister for community development and cooperation. In 1962 he led a delegation to Rio de Janeiro for the social service world conference.\ \ In May 1970 at the 23rd world health assembly in Geneva he was a leader of the Indian delegation. Due to his services in the Indian system of medicine he was awarded the coveted Ayurveda Bandhu.\ \ He had deep interests in youth movements and the welfare of the weaker sections and led the Satyagraha at Tirumala Venkateswara temple who were demanding for the entry of the underprivileged in 1947 and was successful in this campaign. At madras he founded the M.C. Rajah hostel for the underprivileged students there.\ \ He was a very good author and was the editor of the Telugu weekly magazine Navjivan.In Osmania University and the Andhra University he instituted two prizes for the best essays on social justice at the two universities mentioned. He was also invited for a three month lecture tour in the United States of America. He has travelled extensively to the following countries that is Europe,Burma,China,U.K,Thailand,Geneva,Uganda,Zeruch, Frankfurt,Berne,U.S.S.R and West Berlin.\ \ Suryanarayana Murhty Bayya bad three siblings that are two sisters Yellamelli Venkamma was the elder sister and K Rajalakshmi was the youngest sister and one younger brother Bayya Subba Rao. In 1927 he married Smt, Adilaxmi and they had five children, three sons Mr.Bayya Nageshwar Rao, Mr.Bayya Prakash Rao and Dr. Bayya Kishore and two daughters, Smt.Swarajyalakshmi and Smt. Vijayalakshmi.\ \ He was an eminent parliamentarian who served for six terms. He was Hindu by religion. Other than being a politician he was also journalist and an author who was very good in English .he wrote short stories, essays and poem as he had good language command of English. Some the books which he authored include \'91revolt of six cores\'92, \'91depressed and oppressed: forever in agony\'92,\'92 the glimmer in darkness \'92, \'92always at the helm of service\'92,\'92o thou, the curse\'92(which was an under-print and \'92Andhra virakumar\'92 which was in done in Telugu.\ \ He passed on in the year 1979 and was succeeded by Kusuma Krishna Murthy.He is remembered today as a leader of Dalit movement and a parliamentarian in India. He had a very active political career and made achievements which earned himrecognition for his exemparary contributions to the people of India.\ \ Bayya Suryanarayana Murthy took part in the struggle for independence in India. All his life he lived it serving the people of India. He was a renowned politician, parliamentarian and author who always put other people before his own needs. He always fought for the minor citizens in India and made their voices heard by other people. And although he is gone his contributions to the people of India are a good remainder of his willingness to serve others.\ \ Leaders of today should emulate him. They should be selfless and willing to help the different people in the society by making their voices heard and making their opinions count and matter in today\'92s world. They should be actively engaged in whatever field they are given the responsibility of leading. They should lead by example. Leaders should use their influence to point out any wrongs happening in the society today.\ \ Leaders should also appreciate and reward its society for any outstanding performance. The youths of today are the leaders of tomorrow and such require guidance and counseling so as to fulfill the expectations the society has on them. Leaders should desist from misleading the youths for their own selfish gains but should come up with various ways of empowering them so as to achieve their full potential.\ \ Leaders should be efficient and innovative in any areas they are assigned to work for. One should strive to leave a place better than it was .giving whatever one does their all will ensure prosperity in the different sectors. Leaders should be people of integrity .they also should use all the resources at their reach for the welfare of others.\ \ All this are the various lessons leaders learn from the life and times of the great Bayya Suryanarayana Murthy. He was a great leader who is fondly remembered today.Leders should lead wisely and use their God given talents to enlighten the society today for its development and growth.}
