It is notable that in the 2010 census, the City of Cleveland was 47.5 percent white,[6] and Bolivar County was 33.5 percent white.[7] Demographic data for Bayou Academy shows that of the 372 students who attended in the 2011-2012 school year, 99 percent were white.[8]

The high school softball team won 5 consecutive state championships in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. The sports team's rival are North Sunflower Rebels located in Ruleville, Mississippi, Strider Academy, and DeSoto School. The school's colors are royal blue, white, and black. Their mascot is a colt.
