The Battle of Salzbach or Sasbach was fought July 27, 1675, between the armies of France and the Holy Roman Empire, during the Franco-Dutch War. The battle was won by the French, but at a high cost: the great French marshal, the Vicomte de Turenne, was killed in the fighting. The Germans under the Italian general Raimondo Montecuccoli approximately defeated the French, but the last attack was decisive and the Germans had to retreat. The French suffered double casualties, because the Germans were more numerically, they had more equipment and fought with a lot of patriotism. The French general was killed too during the battle by a German cannon.
