Basabdatta Chatterjee is Bengali actress who mainly works in Bengali television serials. She made her debut in the soap Ganer Opaarey. She rose to fame by acting in the female lead role in the comedy soap Boyei Gelo, opposite to Rohit Samanta which aired on Zee Bangla. But later, due to other engagements, she stopped acting in the serial.[1] This was Basabdatta's seventh work.[2] Basabdatta had also portrayed the role of Sati in the soap Durga Durgotinashini, which used to air on Star Jalsha.Now she is working in a new daily soap Mon Niye Kachakachi[3] on Star Jalsha in a female lead role. She acted in Female Lead role in the film Asha Jaoar Majhe by Aditya Vikram Sengupta, 62nd National Award Winner film in the category of Best First Film of a Director and Best Audiography. It was sent to the Venice International Film Festival after almost twelve years and also a good number of shows in International Film Festivals.
Personal life
Basabdatta was born in Kolkata in West Bengal. She did her schooling from Brahmo Girls School and Gokhale Memorial Girls School. In 2013, she completed her master's degree in Bengali from Rabindra Bharati University.
Career
Basabdatta's father, Sumantra Chatterjee, was a film reviewer. So initially, she wanted to become a reporter. She had basically no plans for entering the glamour world. But she came to limelight when she made her debut in the soap Ganer Opaarey, directed by Rituparno Ghosh.Though she had not gone to any acting schools, her acting skills mesmerized the audience when she used to work in Boyei Gelo and she became equally popular in both West Bengal and Bangladesh.[4]
