Barwaha is a municipality in Khargone district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. This is a beautiful town situated on the banks of the Narmada River. It has got the largest CISF training campus in India and is also known for its bright students. Main As of 2011 India census,[1] Barwaha had a population of 33,559. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Barwaha has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 56% of the males and 44% of females literate. 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. The city is surrounded by hundreds of very small villages and so is the main market area for those villages. On every Tuesday people from all these villages come to purchase their weekly required materials, whereas on Friday most of the shops remain closed.

Education

Barwaha is a famous hub of education providing high quality universal education. The city has good CBSE as well as M.P. Board schools. Major schools in the city are: Govt. Model Boys Higher Secondary School (GMBHSS), Grace School, St. Mary's H.S. school, Saraswati Shishu Mandir, The Palladian House, Narmada Valley International School, Kendriya Vidyalaya. Students of GMBHSS are representing Barwaha at national and international companies and corporates with higher designation and reputation. Many of the students from Kendriya Vidyalaya has gone to National level in various games, scouts and guide activities. Also many students went to foreign countries for further studies and career. The city also has a government college and a private college for professional courses.

The population of Barwaha city is 70% hindu, 15%, muslim 5%, jain 5%, Sikh and 5% Christian. The city is peaceful as far as social harmony is considered. The city is of importance for hindus as there are many renowned ashrams in the city where people go to seek peace. Culture of Barwaha city is dominated by hinduism. It is situated on banks of river Narmada which draws most of its cultural activities. A grand ceremony is organised every year on the eve of Narmada Jayanti.Main cultural programs of Barwaha are: Narmada Jayanti, Mahashivratri, Muharram, Janmashtami, Rang Panchami. On these days, people conduct special rallies and juloos which makes the city very joyful and one of the very nice cities in terms of Peace and culture.

Connectivity

Barwaha is very well connected with other parts of the state. It is connected by road with Indore, Khandwa, Barwani, Dhamnod and Khargone. It is situated at the junction of SH-38 and SH-27.Barwaha is situated on Ratlam-Akola meter gauge railway line,which is the largest remaining meter gauge line in India. Barwaha is situated by the bank of river NARMADA, nowadays narmada jayanti mahotsav is famous in barwaha.

Tourist Attractions

There are many tourist attractions in Barwaha. The CISF training campus on outskirts of Barwaha is the largest training camp in India. Jayanti Mata Temple is also a well-visited tourist attraction.Barwaha is also famous for its Ghats on bank of river Narmada.
