Barrio Fino (Spanish: Fine hood) is the third studio album and first commercially released album by Puerto Rican rapper performer Daddy Yankee, released on 13 July 2004, by Machete Music and El Cartel Records.
The album features contributions by Wisin & Yandel, Andy Montañez, Zion & Lennox, Glory among others. The tracks were produced by Luny Tunes, DJ Nelson, Monserrate & DJ Urba, Fido, Eliel, Nely, Echo, Diesel and Crooked Stilo.
While most of the lyrics were written by Daddy Yankee, "Gasolina" was a collaboration between Raymond and Eddie Dee. The album was praised by press and fans being his most complete album to date, combining Hip Hop, Salsa, with the traditional reggaeton sounds. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA with an excess of 1 million copies sold in the United States making Daddy Yankee the first reggaeton artist to sell that much. The album is considered to be an important factor to reggaeton's mainstream exposure in 2004 alongside Ivy Queen's Diva and Tego Calderon's El Enemy de los Guasibiri.[3]
Due to the tracks "Like You", "Santifica Tus Escapularios" and some other tracks, in some countries where the album was sold, they had the album release with a PA label or warning label. Barrio Fino was named the best-selling Latin Album and Tropical Album by Billboard of the 2000s decade.[4] It became the first album to reach #1 on the Billboard Latin Rhythm Albums chart.[5] The album won the Lo Nuestro and the Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album in 2005 and was certified five times by RIAA.[6]
