Cha Sun Woo (Hangul: 차선우; hanja: 車善玗; born September 5, 1992), better known by his stage name Baro, is a South Korean idol and the main rapper of boy band B1A4. He made a debut on the stage of MBC Show! Music Core on April 23, 2011. He has been part of five Korean mini albums, two Korean studio albums, and two Japanese studio albums. In 2014 Baro received critical acclaim for his role in the drama God's Gift - 14 Days in which he portrayed a teenage boy with the mental capacity of a 6-year old.[1][2]

Career

Pre-debut

Baro was first discovered by a company representative who came across his photo posted on his friend's homepage on social network service Cyworld. At his audition, Baro sang Sumi Jo's "Once I Leave" and Sung Si-kyung's "The Road to Me", in addition to rapping and beatboxing.[3] Baro then began training for at least 2 years.

After years of training, Baro joined as the main rapper of B1A4. On April 11, 2011, WM Entertainment revealed Baro as the second member to be revealed after releasing the news of B1A4 along with Jinyoung's picture. Gongchan, Sandeul and CNU were also revealed in the next few days.[4][5][6][7][8]

On April 20, 2011, B1A4 released their debut Track "OK" and mini album "Let's Fly", making their debut on April 23, 2011 on MBC Show! Music Core.[9]

After their debut, B1A4 was invited to star in MTV's reality show Match Up with Block B.[10] As one of the projects for the show, B1A4 filmed a music video for "Only Learned The Bad Things (못된 것만 배워서)."[11]

Personal life

Baro was born in Gwangju, Korea with one younger sister who is four years younger than he is. When Baro was a middle schooler, his father's business did not work out bringing difficult times for Baro and his family.[12]

When Baro was a trainee, he asked TVXQ's Yunho for an autograph and Yunho wrote "Let’s meet on stage in the future!" Two years later, Baro saw Yunho on his debut day and Yunho remembered him which moved Baro deeply.[13]

On June 5, 2013, while preparing for their follow up single "Starlight's Song", Baro strained his ankle ligament where, initially, the group was going to adjust its promotional tour depending on Baro's recovery. However, because Baro's recovery took longer than they had expected, "What's Going On" so the tour ended earlier than planned.[14]
