Bansi is a city and a municipal board in Siddharthnagar district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India (not to be confused with Baansi).
Overview
The city Bansi is situated at a distance of 52 km from the Basti and 90 km from Gorakhpur. It was the first developed town of the Siddharthnagar district. Before Naugarh (Sidharthnagar) was declared as a new district, the proposed name of the new district of Naugarh was 'Madhavnagar'. The local municipal corporation tried to do everything possible for the development of Bansi. At that time this was an all-purpose hub for the area covered by three districts Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Gorakhpur.Bansi is known for its educational hub having well known schools & colleges e.g. Ratan Sen Inter & degree college, Tilak Inter College, Jnv Basantpur, and other private school e.g. Saraswati vidya mandir, SPRV, NPIV, Eton English Medium school, Little Flower, Gurukul etc. & having private polytechnic and one Government Polytechnic (under construction) and DIET. The nearest railway station is Naugarh which is 22 km from Bansi. It is on the gonda-gorakhpur loop line but due to efforts of honr. MP Jagdambika Pal, it is being converted into broad gauge line. Another railway station other than Naugarh is basti which is well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, etc.
Raja Jaipratap Singh is the former MLA from Bansi and belongs to BJP national party.
Geography
Bansi is located at the bank of river Rapti at 27°10′N 82°56′E / 27.17°N 82.93°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 370 metres (1213 feet)
Demographics
As of 2011 India census, Bansi has a population of 41,057. Males constitute 51% of the population(21,105) and females 49%(19,952). Bansi has an average literacy rate of 58%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 61% of the males and 39% of females literate. 18% of the population is under 6 years of age.There are total 6,152 House Holds in Bansi. Total number of workers in Bansi is 11,244 (27%). 7,395 are regular Workers and 3,849 are Irregular Workers.
The city has got a pollution-free environment. The people of Bansi are very simple. Major population is middle class. Bansi is famous for its educational hub in Siddharth Nagar district. Mangal Bazar,Rani Ganj roadways chauraha are notable markets of this town. The 3 forts spread around the town make it very special. The city is well known for its "Magh Mela". The famous local sweets are 'jalebi', 'khaja', 'barfi' etc.Presently Raja Jai Pratap Singh is the Member of legislative assembly(M.L.A.) from Bansi electorate, elected on Bhartiya Janata Party ticket.He has been elected from bansi for 6th time. He has also won as an Independent candidate in year 1989 and 1991 and after that as a BJP candidate in year 1993,1996,2002 and 2012.
Education
Bansi has always been famous for its many Education Institutes. Students from many neighboring towns and districts have been coming to Bansi for their education. The main educational institutes in the town are Ratan Sen Degree College, Ratan Sen Inter College, Tilak Inter College, Government Girls Inter College.Apart from this Bansi has also got DIET, Navodaya, Polytechinic etc. Bansi has also lots of schools for children. There are also lots of private coaching centers in Bansi which provide help to the students.

Many famous markets are situated in Bansi. Sarrafa Market, Krishana Market and Mangal Bazaar are the famous markets of Bansi.

There are many religious places in Bansi. Hanuman Garhi,Shiv Mandir, Kaali Mandir,Takdhar Baba Mandir,Siyarapar and Thakur Dwara Mandir are famous religious places in Bansi City. Dipawali, Holi,Raksha Bandhan,Dashara,Navratan and Ganesh Chaturthi and are famous festivals in Bansi . and Islamic schools and Masjid like Kotwali masjid and huda public school and Rahimiya school and Ahle Hadith Masjid bansi etc.
धार्मिक स्थल एवं त्योहार
हनुमान गढ़ी,शिव मन्दिर,शेरापार,ठाकुरद्वारा,शिवालय एवं राम-जानकी आदि मन्दिर बाँसी के प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक स्थल हैं।
होली,दीपावली,महाशिवरात्री,नवरात्री,रछाबन्धन एवं नागपंचमी आदि हिन्दू धार्मिक त्योहार यहाँ पर बड़ी धूम-धाम से मनाये जाते हैं ।

There are two cinemas located here- (1)Urvashi Cinema and (2)Sharda Chitra Mandir.
Bansi's citizen eat many snakes and sweets . Ex. Samosha,Kachori,Laddoo,Jilebi,Lassi and gulab jhamun etc.
Some peoples like Noodles, Cho-Cho and Momo.
Bansi's people like Cricket, Badmintan,Volleyball and Hide and Seek. There are many stadium located here. The most popular stadium is 'Indira Stadium'. This is located nearby Magh Mela Ground.
मनोरंजन ,भोजन एवं खेल-कूद
यहाँ के लोग प्रायः क्रिकेट मैच,बाॅलीवुड एवं भोजपुरी पिक्चर देखना पसन्द करते हैं । मनोरंजन के लिए यहाँ पर उर्वशी सिनेमा एवं शारदा चित्रमंदिर है।
यहाँ के लोग प्रायः दाल,चावल एवं रोटी-सब्जी खाते हैं।
यहाँ पर लोग क्रिकेट, बाॅलीवाॅल,हाॅकी,बैडमिन्टन और छुपन-छुपाई खेलना पसन्द करते हैं। यहाँ पर खेलने के लिए इन्द्रा स्टेडियम भी है।

There are many Tourist Places located in Bansi. There is huge temple of Sant. Shri Sitaram Das Baba. The main tourist places are Ranimoh Bhakt Lakshmi Ghat and Magh Mela .
Travel and Connectivity(यातायात)
Bansi is well connected to the nearby towns and cities. As it was the centre of the activities and many government offices were located at Bansi, it has been well connected to the nearby towns. Roadways bus station as well as private bus stand is there. From Bansi regular buses to Naugarh,Gorakhpur,Basti,Khalilabad and Domariyagunj are always available. Also buses to Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Ayodhyay, Faizabad, Akbarpur, Tanda, Rajesultanpur, Azamgarh and Delhi run daily many times from Bansi. Private buses and jeeps are also available for many nearing towns.
The nearest railway station is Naugarh(Siddharth nagar). Basti is also one of the nearer railway stations. From Basti we can get direct trains to all over India. There is Metro rail project planned in 2020.
