The name Baldwin or Balduin is of Anglo-Saxon and Old German origin, from the Old English Bealdwine, or the Old German equivalent Baldavin, meaning "bold friend". French version Baudouin, Dutch version Boudewijn. It was frequently used in medieval Britain as a surname.[1]
