The Balang formation, which crops out in Hunan province, China, contains Burgess Shale-type soft-bodied fossils.[1] Its preservation is comparable to that in the Thin Stephen formation; it contains a low diversity of trilobites; it is intermediate in age between the Chengjiang and Kaili lagerstatten.[1]
