Bagaha is a city and a municipality in Pashchim Champaran district in the state of Bihar, India. It is Subdivision of Pashchim Champaran district and is Police District. It is located around 64 kilometres (40 mi) away from its district headquarters Bettiah towards north-west. It is 294 kilometers away from its state capital Patna.

Geography

Bagaha is located at 27°08′N 84°04′E / 27.13°N 84.07°E. It has an average elevation of 135 metres (442 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[2] Bagaha had a population of 113,012. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Bagaha has an average literacy rate of 38%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 66% of the males and 34% of females literate. 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Overview

Bagaha is on the banks of the Gandak river. The area is very fertile due to its location in the terai of the Himalayas. The main crops grown here are sugarcane, wheat and rice.

Declaring Bagaha as Police District was one of major steps by Government in order to reduce crime. The road connecting to Patna is now National Highway 28B.

Town has three cinema halls, one civil court, one subdivisional hospital, and government and private high schools and colleges.

Bagaha is divided into two blocks Bagaha-1 and Bagaha-2.

Auto rickshaw is the main channel of public transportation between Bagaha-1 and Bagaha-2.

The town is well connected to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Amritsar, Dehradun, Haridwar, Porbandar Gandhinagar and Varanasi with superfast trains. Some of the trains which run through Bagaha are Awadh(Bandra) Exp., Saptakranti Exp., Satyagrah Exp., Motihari-Porbandar Exp., Bapudham Exp., Amarnath Exp., Dehradoon Exp., Purvanchal Exp., Jannayak exp. etc.
