- Head of Geoup: Assist. Prof. S. Hassan Aghababaei
- Academic staff: 4 Assistant Professor
Nanotechnology Research Institute
- Head of Institute: Prof. Mohsen Jahanshahi
- Researchers: 6 Professor, 7 Associate Prof, 8 Assistant Prof and 20 Postgruadute Students
It is noteworthy that Professor Jahanshahi has been accused of plagiarizing scientific data in several of his publications, including "Subtractive chromatography for purification and recovery of nano-bioproducts" IET Proc. Nanobiotechnol. 152 pp. 121-126 (2005). These accusations were brought by his PhD supervisor, Prof. Andrew Lyddiatt, and refer to work performed by others at the University of Birmingham, but claimed by Jahanshahi as his own. They included the unacknowledged inclusion of data from other PhD students and colleagues in his own publications. Prof. Jahanshahi has never denied these cases. Dr Lyddiatt published details of the plagiarism in a written communication in IET Nanobiotechnol. (2007) 1 (4) p.68. In response, Lee Baldwin, the Managing Editor of this journal, thanked Dr Lyddiatt and apologized unreservedly for this failure of their peer review process.
Student activism
Student activist Sayed Ziaoddin "Zia" Nabavi attended the university as an engineering student before being banned from higher education for his anti-government political activities.[5] Along with other banned students, he formed the Council to Defend the Right to Education to defend their rights to continue attending university. Following his participation in "Green Revolution" protests following President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's disputed reelection, Sayed Ziaoddin Nabavi was arrested along with his wife,[6] and he is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence on charges of "creating unease in the public mind".[7]
