B. K. Modi

B. K. Modi or Bhupendra Kumar Modi is the global Chairman of Spice Global, an Indian conglomerate headquartered in Singapore. Council[1] and chairman of Asia Crime Prevention Foundation’s India chapter. He was appointed by the United Nation as Coordinator for the Indian subcontinent for the Millennium World Peace Summit. Modi became a citizen of Singapore in 2012 and ranks 23rd in the Forbes list of Singapore’s richest people.[2][3]

On 17 February 2004, the US House of Representatives issued a proclamation in appreciation of Modi's efforts to promote deeper understanding between the two countries and congratulated him on his innovations and humanitarian efforts worldwide.

Modi has authored many books, including One God, Hinduism – The Universal Truth, Performance – A Manager's Challenge and Whispers of Peace.

Personal life

Modi was born in Patiala, India to Rai Bahadur Gujarmal Modi in Marwari family - the founder of the Modi Group and Dayawati Modi. He is a chemical engineer from Indian Institute of Technology – Banaras Hindu University (IIT – BHU) and an MBA from the University of South California. He was awarded a PhD in financial management and conferred a DLitt in industrial management. His brother Krishan Kumar Modi is also a leading industrialist.

Business career

Modi began his career in Modi Steel, one of the prime units of his family business, Modi Industries. As head of Modi Rubber, Modi sealed India's first international Joint Venture partnership in the tyre industry with Continental of Germany. Modi Rubber set up India's first world-class tyre manufacturing facility in the country.

Modi laid the foundation for his business empire by setting up Graphics India in 1981, in collaboration with Xerox. The Leadership through Quality training programme at Xerox won the first Deming Prize for Quality in the United States. Modi brought India's first photocopiers in partnership with Rank Xerox.

In the past three decades, he has forged Joint Venture Partnerships with global giants such as Alcatel, Telstra, Olivetti and, more recently, Telekom Malaysia.

Modi established Spice Global under the name, Modi Corp. Later, the company came to be known as MCorp Global and Spice Corp, before it finally became Spice Global.

Modi is in the process of setting up its first multi-super speciality hospital, christened Saket City Hospital, in Delhi, with an envisaged investment of Rs 14 billion ($250 million).

Global Citizen Forum

Global Citizen Forum was started by Modi on 5 January 2013, to bridge the gap between artificial boundaries and the real world through technology. The forum launched its GCF webpage and held a session in Singapore on relaxing property ownership laws for singles. Modi wants the Singapore government to end a ban on young singles owning state-built homes till they become 35 years.[4]

Personal life

Modi is married to Veena Modi. His son, Dilip Modi, was the youngest ASSOCHAM president in 2011 and also the youngest COAI president in 2004–05. His daughters, Divya (Director Spice Finance) and Ritika, are both married. He also produced the Zee TV serial Buddha – The King of Kings in 2013.[5]
