History
Ayutthaya Railway Station was originally built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, as a wooden structure. Its name was "Krung Kao", in relation to the nearby Ayutthaya Historical Park. In 1921, is was remodeled into a concrete building with metal bracing and renamed "Ayutthaya" to King Vajiravudh's national order in 1917. The name and structure remains into current use today.[2]
A few new platforms were recently added a few metres to the north of the station to make easier access for passengers alighting and boarding at this station for Southbound trains (to Bangkok).
