Ayman (Arabic: أيمن, also spelled Aiman, Aimen, or Aymen)[1] is a male name of Arabic origin. It is derived from the Arabic Semitic root (ي م ن) for right, and literally means righteous or he who is on the right, similar to the Latin name Dexter. It also means right-handed, blessed and lucky. In Pakistan, unlike Arab countries, Ayman is used both as a masculine and feminine name. This is because of confusion related to popular islamic woman figure "Umm-e-Ayman", which parents name their daughter after. However "Umm" means mother of, and Ayman was her son. Also due to the fact that it is an Arabic name and part of the Arabic language, it would make more sense being male than female due to the fact that in all Arabic countries it is a male name. It is also agreed upon by all Arabic and Islamic language scholars to be a masculine name. Thus, in terms of Islam, Ayman is a male name that is sometimes wrongly referred to as a feminine name, predominantly in Pakistan.[2]
